Mr. Atwell serves Ascendiant Capital Markets as a Managing Director in the firm’s investment banking and advisory practice, specializing in natural resources.
Mr. Atwell has over 40 years of experience in the mining and minerals sector, during which he has visited over 230 mines and 300 steel mills. As a senior equity research analyst, Mr. Atwell covered a large number of intermediate and junior mining companies in the steel and non-ferrous metal industries, and was recognized in the Institutional Investor rankings numerous times over a twenty year period.
Prior to Ascendiant, Mr. Atwell was employed by large firms such as Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs & Co., and Morgan Stanley, as well as smaller boutiques. In those positions, he managed the research involvement in 90 capital markets transactions, including 15 initial public offerings. Mr. Atwell also previously served as a portfolio manager of a start-up hedge fund.
Mr. Atwell earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Finance from New York University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mineral Economics from Penn State University. Mr. Atwell is a CFA charterholder, and maintains FINRA Series 7, 24, 63, 79, and 87 securities registrations.
